The Compassionate Protector: Why Your "Inner Critic" is Actually Trying to Save You

We often treat our internal struggles like bugs in a software system, glitches to be deleted or symptoms to be managed.


We fight our anxiety, we shame our procrastination, and we try to silence the "Mean Inner Critic" that keeps us small.

But what if we looked at these parts of ourselves through the lens of Compassion instead of correction?


The Architecture of the Self

At the core of every human being is what I call Self Essence. This is the part of you that remains untouched by trauma or time. It is defined by the 8Cs:


  • Calm, Curiosity, Confidence, Compassion, Clarity, Courage, Connectedness, and Creativity.


Beneath the surface, this Self cannot be broken ❤️ ❤️‍🩹

However, life teaches us that being our "True Self" isn't always safe.

To survive rejection, abandonment, or pain, our system creates Protectors

Meeting the "Manager" and the "Critic"

You might recognize your protectors as a loud Inner Critic, a hyper-vigilant "fier-fighter," or a Manager who keeps you in a state of constant control.

These parts create anxiety and hyper-vigilance, not because they want to hurt you, but because they are terrified of you being hurt again.

They are often operating from the perspective of a very young child.

They are scanning your body, scanning your environment, and screaming "Danger!"

at the slightest hint of change, even when that change is exactly what you need to grow.


The Power of Recalibration

In my work as a Specialist in Nervous System Recalibration, we don't exile these parts.

We don't hide them away in shame or guilt. Instead, we extend a welcome.

When we use Somatic Hypnotherapy, we step into your internal world for a 2–3 hour immersion. We get curious. We focus on the voice of the critic and ask:

"What are you afraid would happen if you didn't do this job?"

Usually, the answer is simple: Its good intention for you is "I’m trying to protect you."


Choosing Transformation Over Management

Real transformation happens when your body finally feels safe enough to tell these protector parts, "Thank you for your service, but I am safe now. I am no longer that small child."


When that shift occurs, your nervous system recalibrates. You stop reacting from past pain and start living from your Self Essence.

The "stories" held in your Nervous system, muscles and breath begin to dissolve, leaving you calmer, clarity of thought returns, peace of mind! Being more present and in attunement, alignment, and being connected to SELF, healing integrates and change happens easily progressively!
